Areas of interest - Education
At the root of a strong civil society is an educated populace with access to good quality information. Without education, people struggle to participate in decision-making and change: the Foundation therefore supports projects which promote education for all people and particularly ones that give opportunities to those who would otherwise be excluded..

Whilst in the past the Foundation made occasional grants to individuals, today we focus our support on organisations and institutions. These bodies offer educational opportunities which will enable students to develop their skills and abilities. We hope that these students will become leaders and opinion formers and will make real contributions towards a fairer civil society.

A prime example of this ethos is our grants scheme at the University of Cape Town. Each year we offer a number of scholarships to high achieving students to enable them to pursue their studies – a requirement of the grant is that they share their research within the university and use it to contribute to wider society.
